Questions
Thinking about retirement or semi-retirement can be overwhelming. It’s a big life change which can lead to a new stage of growth, joy, and fulfilment, but can also bring a lot of uncertainty and questions to consider.
With so much going on in the present, it can be challenging to think ahead. We can’t control the future, but we can take control of how we approach it and make decisions that work for us.
Whether you invest in a consultation, a one-to-one coaching programme, or a small group workshop, this will give you:
- Breathing space to work out what is important to you going forward and what is not
- A thought partner to ask you questions and help you to reflect on how you respond, without judgement, and in a confidential space
- A process that helps you to focus, plan and take action more quickly and effectively than doing this alone if you’re struggling with how to approach your next stage in life
There may be one question you want to answer or many. You set the agenda and priorities, which I can help you with if this is challenging.
Questions or issues you might want to focus on could be any of the following, or others:
- Moving to part-time or flexible work where you are or somewhere new
- How to leave your work completely and put a succession plan in place
- How to monetise your knowledge, skills or passions to create income with flexibility
- Reframing your purpose or identity when this has been tied up with a job you are leaving
- Finding ways to connect with people and prevent loneliness
- Working out how you want to spend your time and create the amount of structure that suits you
- Grandparenting, caring for elderly relatives, finding support and setting boundaries
- Relocation, future proofing your home or downsizing
- Creating good practices for your physical and mental health
This is not financial planning. Much of what we discuss may inform or be underpinned by your financial planning for retirement, but all financial planning questions should be discussed with a qualified and regulated financial advisor.
This is up to you.
Wouldn’t it be great to start thinking about what you want from retirement or the next stage of your life and putting plans in place a few years ahead of time?
Realistically, this doesn’t always happen, with demands on our time, energy and brains in our current everyday life taking up all the space.
Engaging in retirement life planning 6-12 months before you want to start retiring will enable you to be proactive and make decisions in a way that enables you to create retirement on your terms.
We all have different reasons, incentives and disincentives for when we retire and our own set of circumstances. People are typically in their 50s and 60s when working with Second Spring, but all ages are welcome.
Likewise, if you're about to retire or have already retired and are feeling lost or struggling, I'm here to help you find focus and take action towards the life that you want.
Yes. I'm here to support you to make decisions that are right for you, and to create and implement plans that suit this time in your life. It recognises that a change is needed, and that for reasons of income, purpose, connection, health or time, for example, part-time or flexible work is what will fit your next stage.
I see you, I will listen to you, and I won’t judge you. I am kind, and patient, and will refocus you when you need it.
I will ask you challenging questions and encourage you to stretch yourself, even when it’s a bit uncomfortable, because I believe that you can create retirement on your terms if you allow yourself to go all in.
I am an ICF qualified coach with over 20 years of experience in professional project and programme management, supporting people to focus their goals, create plans and make them happen.
No, I'm not retired myself, but you don't need me to be. I understand the issues you may face at this stage of life and the challenge of finding focus, prioritising and taking action. You need me to guide and support you to create your own life, on your terms, because this is about what you want, not what my lived experience tells you to want.
I want you to have the life that is right for you, because you deserve it. This next stage is too important, and can be too overwhelming, to ignore.
Let me help you to reach for what you want in a proactive and reflective way, that gives you ownership of your future.
Whether you have a consultation or decide on a coaching conversation, you'll be asked a few short questions in your booking form to help focus the work that we do together. This covers things like what you're looking forward to in retirement, what you may be concerned or have questions about, and any partner or wider family to consider in making your decisions.
In the Future Focus Consultation, we look at your high-level questions to start clarifying and prioritising steps towards your next stage of life.
In both the Jumpstart Your Retirement and Explorer Coaching Programmes, we will start with more of a deep dive about the outcomes for retirement you are looking for, or at least the first stage of your retirement, so that we can work on step by step actions to move towards it.
We will focus on what is important to you, what you want, what you don't want, where you are now in relation to where you want to get to, and what might be holding you back or an obstacle in your way. I’ll support you to think creatively about what potential action steps you can take and focus you to committing to the relevant next action steps for you to create retirement on your terms.
I will do a lot of listening and may ask you challenging questions, but always without judgement. I may also point out what I notice you are saying or not saying, and your body language, for example, to check in with you what this might mean for you and how that affects what decisions you make. The aim of all Second Spring services is to help you find clarity and to take action, but you as the client will need to take responsibility for implementing the actions that you decide on in our sessions.
Workshops involve a group of people, are usually along a particular theme, and will always include practical exercises, shared reflection on the process, and creating your own personalised action plan for next steps to take away with you.
Visit the Work With Me tabs for more information about each service option and to request a workshop quote for your organisation. If you want more help to understand what option is right for you, go to the contact page to arrange a free call with me and we can talk it through.
It may sound like a cliché, but you get out of it what you put in.
For our work together to be effective, you need to be present, to be ready to do the work of reflection, and be willing to be honest.
I will listen, ask you questions and support you to refocus when needed, but you will make the decisions and set the direction of the sessions.
I don’t set homework. You will choose what actions to complete after a consultation or workshop, or in between coaching sessions, to make progress towards the outcome you have set for yourself.
I will help you to work out what actions you want to take to give you the best chance for success.
The outcomes are your responsibility. If you want someone to tell you what to do, then I’m not the right coach for you.
