
Reset your wellbeing in retirement
Retiring – moving onto your next stage of life – is a chance to make change, to reset.
It can be hard to change habits and commit to a new way of thinking and behaving when there’s so much going on in our work, our lives, and the world.
By removing work stress, retirement frees up at least some time and potentially headspace to focus on your wellbeing as a foundation to living the best life for you.
Wellbeing has become a buzz word, often dismissed as yoga and meditation to make us feel calm, which is not appealing to everyone, and is limited. (If they appeal to you, go for it).
If we consider positive wellbeing as covering both physical and emotional good health, what might we need to consider changing in our lives? To do more or less of?
To maintain and improve our wellbeing, here are three elements to start focusing on:
Exercise: What environment will help us to keep fit and healthy? Do we prefer to take part in group exercise with friends or to be alone and follow our own path?
Relationships: What relationships help us to feel better about ourselves, and which drain our energy or patience? What can we do to change them or remove them from our lives?
Happiness: What do we or can we do that makes us happy? This might take some deeper thinking and experimentation if identifying what makes us happy isn’t immediately obvious.
