"Have a break, have a KitKat
“Have a break, have a KitKat”.
This advertising campaign has stuck with me over the years.
It makes me breathe a sigh of relief and relax my shoulders.
In my mind I envisage taking a break, stopping what I’m doing, and I hear the crisp snap of breaking a KitKat stick in two.
When our minds are rushing all the time, whether it’s an intense workload, caring responsibilities, or a million other things, sometimes we need to enforce a break.
I’m a firm believer in taking a break to reset and recharge and that we’re better off for it, whether for five minutes, days or weeks.
Retirement life planning for many of us will require energy, a clear head and time to focus on what we want and what we don’t want. To challenge expectations and assumptions.
Taking a break (KitKat optional), will help some of us to focus during this allocated time.
For others of us, the break itself, doing something to relax and clear our minds, will be needed first to set us up to focus effectively.
I know time is precious and prioritising your retirement life planning can feel challenging.
But if it will reassure you, enable you to breathe a sigh of relief and feel that you have some control over what comes next, make taking a break part of your routine.
Do whatever works for you to take a break, to create space for exploration, inspiration and clarity.
If having an accountability partner and scheduling time to work on your retirement life planning is what you need to move forward, let’s have a conversation about how we can work together.
