Acting on that 4am moment of clarity
When we’re thinking something through, sometimes over days or weeks, a moment of clarity can arrive at an awkward time.
Often, for me, that’s 4am.
The moment extends and keeps me awake, swirling around inside my head.
I’ve come to realise that it’s better for me to get out of bed and write it down.
This first action of capturing the idea, whether it’s clarity, a decision or inspiration allows me to go back to sleep and removes the fear of forgetting what I want to remember.
The second action is to reflect on these 4am notes in the light of day to get some perspective.
Sometimes the 4am moment of clarity turns out to be less clear than it had seemed at the time.
And sometimes it’s spot on, or at least on the right path.
Whatever the outcome, what does our reflection and how we feel about it tell us?
The third action is to consider what our next steps might be, and to commit to doing at least one thing to move forward: our fourth action.
Decide its purpose, what the action will be, and how and when it will happen.
Then DO IT.
Repeat this process until you have achieved the outcome you want.
The outcome you want and how you feel about it may change along the way, and that’s ok.
You’re allowed to change your mind.
